The 29th annual Lake Orion/Oxford CROP Walk took place on Sunday, May 1st at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Eleven churches with 170 walkers raised an estimated $15,701.50. They chose to walk a 2 mile or a 10k (6.2 mile) course. Christ the King Church won the ‘Golden Shoe Award? again.
The CROP Walk is put on by the Church World Services (CWS) an interfaith organization. 25 percent of the money goes to local agencies:
15 percent goes to FISH, Love in the Name of Christ receives 5 percent, and St. Vincent de Paul receives 5 percent.
The rest of the money goes to Third World countries to improve farming practices, build wells, and provide disaster relief both in the United States and globally.
