Slam Poetry

Clarkston students took to the mic, May 3, to make their views known through poetry.
‘My poem was something to inspire people,? said Raven Ruelas, sophomore. “What’s great about the event is that you get to hear thoughts and views from a variety of people.”
Kindness was the theme of this year’s Slam Poetry event in Clarkston High School’s performing arts center, said Ryan Eisele, ringleader of the event.
‘The Slam Poetry movement was started by me about six years ago and has grown every year since,? Eisele said. ‘The Slam event is not a contest but more styled after HBO’s Def Poetry Jam.?
Eisele believes the poetry movement has a strong following because it gives students a voice and an opportunity to be heard.
Connor Morris, a Clarkston High School sophomore, said his poem was inspired by drama he sees around school.
‘We are only here for a few years, so we should all try to get along,? he said.
