About 30 residents attended a town hall meeting, May 11, to talk about how to reduce Clarkston’s budget.
Residents at the meeting, hosted by Michigan Municipal League at Independence Township Fire Station on Citation Road, discussed library services, police service, cost of government, Depot Park, and whether to remain a city or not.
‘I was pleased with the turnout, better than I expected, quite honestly,? said Councilman James Brueck. ‘We would’ve liked to have more, but it was still a good turnout.?
Brueck said residents’ input was helpful.
‘They liked the services, but what you’ve got to look at is how to provide those services at less cost and maintain the same kind of quality. Do you look outside, do you look inside? Contract if it’s inside? How we are structured and organized. To me those are the levers we’ve got to pull,? he said. ‘We have to decide which of those make sense, to accomplish what everybody is looking for.?
Mayor Joe Luginski also felt the meeting overall was good.
‘It was good to get people’s involvement, their thoughts and also to let them know where we are in regards to our financial situation,? Luginski said. ‘We’ll get the information back from the MML and we’ll see where we go from there.?
