CHS softball team claims North Star title

The Clarkston softball team played solid softball in winning six straight to capture first place of the North Star tournament last weekend.
‘We made all the correct plays,? Clarkston coach Al Land said. ‘We played outstanding defense and got good pitching all weekend.?
The Wolves won three games on Saturday starting with a 2-1 extra inning victory against Bishop Borgess.
Heather Giroux led off the rally with a double, while Courtney Robinson hit an RBI single to capture the victory.
In the second game Saturday, Clarkston rallied from a 6-2 deficit against Flushing to win 9-6.
‘That was a nice comeback,? Land said.
The Wolves finished the first day of the tournament with a 3-1 win against Fraser.
The team picked up right where it left off on Sunday morning with another thrilling 2-1 victory against Birmingham Seaholm.
A Suzie Giroux triple scored Missy Parson for the decisive run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
After knocking off Walled Lake Western, 8-0, Clarkston earned a 2-1 win against Garden City in the championship game. Kelly Robinson picked up the win on the mound.
‘We were really aggressive in the field for all six games,? Land said. ‘We also got hitting from throughout the lineup. It was a good weekend.?
Earlier in the week, Clarkston swept a doubleheader from Kettering by scores of 6-1 and 7-0.
Kelly Robinson and Courtney Bollman picked up the wins. Both Suzie Giroux and Heather Giroux had three hits.
‘We had a lot of opportunities and we took advantage of them,? Land said.
The Wolves are 10-3 on the season.
