Jeweler back in business

A Main Street gem is returning almost five years after closing its doors.
“We’ve been kind of hibernating, treading water these last few years,” said Floyd “Buck” Kopietz.
The former Tierra Fine Jewelry returns as Silver Kiss jewelry shop at its original location, 64 S. Main Street.
“I was originally looking at Sashabaw Road, but development there was put on hold,” Kopietz said. “I really don’t want to move out of area. I have a very loyal clientele. They would be disappointed to see me leave.”
He also looks forward to participating in a new renaissance for downtown, with new and renovated shops such as KH Home, Woodshop and Union restaurants, and exterior renovation projects up and down Main Street. Downtown Retailers Group is also active, planning Main Street activities throughout the year.
“A lot of credit goes to Peg Roth ? she’s been a real force helping in the resurgence of downtown,” Kopietz said. “Everybody’s busy getting downtown looking nice.”
Changes to the jewelry shop reflect the new economy, adding affordable sterling silver jewelry, gift items, and expanded card collections.
“We have a lot of new designs, and more products, values and affordability,” he said.
The shop will still offer gold, diamond, wedding and engagement rings, custom design work, and repair services, he said.
Store renovations include new video monitors, paintings, and display windows.
“They make this an exciting place to visit,” he said. “Jewelry has stories ? from Mt. St. Helens, natural and animal jewelry from all over the world. This tells their stories.”
They are planning a grand reopening and ribbon cutting for Oct. 21, with an open house from 5-9 p.m. The grand opening will continue through Oct. 29.
