Oakland Town Hall’s 2011-2012 lecture series is set, kicking off with Hollywood dog trainer Bill Berloni.
Berloni author of “Making Stars of Strays,” is set to speak, Oct. 12. He will discuss his 30 years of training shelter dogs for Broadway stage, commercials, television, and movies, including Sandy for “Annie,” a horse for Elmo, and Bruiser in the film “Legally Blonde.”
The series continues, Nov. 9, with Dan Nigro, retired department chief with the Fire Department of New York .
He will talk about his book ‘How Can Something Good Come Out of Something So Bad,” about his experiences as incident chief on Sept. 11, 2001, during the World Trade Center attack.
Sharon Yamato, writer and filmmaker, will talk on April 12 about the experiences of Japanese Americans in internment camps during World War II.
The lecture series concludes, May 9, with Judith Viorst, author of poems, non-fiction, and children’s books.
“I think they’re great ? diverse and educational,” said President Elect Kerry Holley of Waterford. “There’s nothing like this in the area.”
“A lot of Clarkston people attend,” said Treasurer Ruth Schluchter of White Lake.
Oakland Town Hall lectures are at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Cultural Center, 43816 Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Hills. Tickets are $123 for all four lectures and luncheons; $65 for lecture series only; $58 for luncheons only; and $14.50 each for lunch.
