Clarkston baseball captures league title

The Clarkston baseball team used a sweep of Lake Orion to capture their league title. The Wolves won by scores of 10-4 and 17-2 to finish with a 10-3 league record. Lake Orion was 9-4 on the year.
In the first game, Matt Orris got the start and went five innings despite a cut on his finger. Orris gave up four runs and struck out five while leaving with a 5-4 lead. Bobby Slaughter pitched the final two innings in relief.
The Wolves were helped by a five run sixth inning. The key play was a Chase Morris sacrifice bunt which set up a Sam Palace two RBI single.
‘It was a great bunt. Everybody knew he was going to be bunting but he still got it down,? Clarkston coach Phil Price said.
Derek Ranck had three hits, including a solo homerun, while Palace had two hits and two RBIs. Matt Brady chipped in with two hits.
In the second game, Aaron Powell went all seven innings for the victory. Powell struck out 11 and allowed two runs.
‘He really did a fabulous job,? Price said.
Ranck had three hits including a triple, while Orris also had three hits. Clarkston pushed across eight runs in the seventh inning.
‘Winning the league was our first goal,? Price said. ‘It was a huge thing for us. Our next goal is districts.?
Earlier in the week, Clarkston knocked off Troy 11-6. Slaughter went the distance to pick up the win.
‘He didn’t have his best stuff but he still pitched very well. It was a gutsy performance,? Price said.
Aaron Powell had a two-run homer and Addison Turk had three hits.
Clarkston finished the regular season with a 19-6 record.
