Springfield Township is set to maintain police, fire, parks, and other services through 2012, but may need a police millage next year.
“We anticipate a decrease in taxable value based on historical trends ? with current services, it won’t last long,” said township Supervisor Collin Walls. “We obviously have to do something.”
The board will consider millage options in January.
The board approved a $5.9 million budget, including $2.06 million general fund and $1.59 million police budget. The budget includes a transfer of about $268,000 from fund balance reserves. If a millage is not approved, more than $300,000 would have to be transferred to maintain services.
The budget also includes $716,500 for the township fire department, $578,176 for parks and recreation, $269,100 Lake Improvement Fund, $129,900 Cable TV Fund, $371,000 Civic Center Debt Fund, and $70,700 Building Department Fund.
