57 percent of the township’s winter taxes collected

Brandon Twp.- Winter tax collection ends Feb. 14. Treasurer Terry Beltramo hopes to receive payments steadily in the next three weeks, and not all the outstanding bills on the last day.
Two weeks ago, at the mid-point of collection, Beltramo was happy to have 57 percent of the township’s winter taxes collected. On Jan. 17, however, he was still at 57 percent collected and concerned about the drop off in payments.
‘I understand people are having a hard time paying their taxes,? he said. ‘If you have the money to pay them, we appreciate if you don’t wait until the last second so we are not caught up in a rush at the end. We would like to report to the county and get our settlement done.?
The last day to pay winter taxes without penalty is Feb. 14. Township residents can pay their taxes by mailing a check or money order to the treasurer’s office, P.O. Box 929, Ortonville, MI 48462 or by paying at the treasurer’s office, 395 Mill St. between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Checks or money order are preferred. A stand-alone drop box for taxes only (and labeled as such) is located on the southeast corner of the building.
For a fee, residents can also use the county’s e-commerce system by going to www.oakgov.com, clicking on the ‘pay taxes? link and follow instructions to pay via debit or credit card. Details: 248-627-2853.
