Fundraising for the 2003 Lake Orion Fireworks show is slow going, but the Lake Orion Fireworks Association hopes to reach its goal by July 4, with several events planned for June.
Carl Cyrowski, representing the association, said the group has raised about $6,200 of the $30,000 goal so far.
“We’re at about 20 percent, maybe a little over,” he said. “Last year we had $24,000. We’d like a safer show this year, and a better show.”
The association will hold a fundraiser this Saturday, June 7, at Bonzai Bob’s. “Margaritaville” is being offered for $10 a ticket, with entertainment by the band No Money Down, featuring some members of Rescue.
Tickets for the event are $10, and include a drink and beads. All proceeds from the event, starting at 7 p.m., go towards the Lake Orion Fireworks.
“We’re really pushing now,” Cyrowski said. “On June 14 Orion House is sponsoring a Motorcycle Poker Run…and on Father’s Day (June 15) the Hamlin Pub is having a barbecue from 2-7 p.m.”
The Lake Orion Fireworks Association will host their final fundraising event on June 29, with a brunch at the Lake Orion Boat Club.
“It’s a fancy event with a silent auction,” Cyrowski said. “We hope we’ll raise enough…we can only shoot off (as many fireworks) as we get (money for).”
The Lake Orion Fireworks are scheduled for July 4, with Flare Night scheduled on the lake for July 5. Flare Night is an event not associated with the Lake Orion Fireworks Association.
