Oxford High School juniors interested in learning about the inner workings of government or pursuing a career in law enforcement can pick up applications for special summer programs in the counseling office.
Sponsored locally by Oxford American Legion Post 108 and Legion Auxiliary Unit 108, Boys State and Girls State afford young people an excellent opportunity to learn how local, county and state governments work by participating in every facet of the democratic process from running elections to formulating public policy.
Boys State will be held June 17-23 on the campus of Northwood University in Midland, while Girls State will be held June 17-23 at Michigan State University in East Lansing.
The Student Trooper Program is also sponsored by the American Legion and will be held at the Michigan State Police Academy July 15-20 and August 5-10.
Geared toward students interested in pursuing a police career, this program involves intense physical and educational training.
Applications for all three summer enrichment programs can be obtained from OHS counselor Kai-Lynn Rim.
Interested OHS juniors can also call Chairperson Helen Smith at (248) 736-3104.
