A 13-year-old Clarkston boy was riding his bike, helmetless, north on the sidewalk along Main Street, Tuesday, May 27, near the Washington Street municipal parking lot, when he hit a vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was heading east from the parking lot about to turn onto Main Street, when the two collided.
Clarkston Police Chief Ernest Combs said the driver was moving very slow and came to a stop before the collision. It appeared the boy ran into the car, Combs said, who was just feet away and saw the accident.
‘He flew off his bike, crashed onto the hood and fell onto the pavement,? Combs said.
‘I thought, ‘Uh, oh, he’s gotta be hurt,? but luckily he wasn’t.?
The boy received minor cuts and bruises, and did not require transport to a hospital.
‘The point of this whole thing,? Combs said, ‘is he wasn’t wearing a helmet. He could’ve been killed, suffered a head injury, or a cracked skull. When he was in the ambulance, he said, ‘I’m going to start wearing my helmet.? Let that be a lesson.?
