Despite being hit by the injury bug, the Clarkston High School softball team was able to capture a district title last Saturday.
The Wolves beat Waterford Kettering 11-5 in their first game before knocking off Waterford Mott 5-2 in the championship game.
Kelly Robinson picked up the win in both games.
Caitlin McLean had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs in the first game.
McLean was playing centerfield for Suzie Giroux who was injured with a torn muscle in her shoulder.
‘McLean was a big key for us that day,? Clarkston coach Al Land said. ‘She was a real sparkplug for us.?
Katy Kleinedler had two hits for the Wolves.
Clarkston also played with an injured Heather Giroux who got in the game despite a broken tailbone.
‘I wasn’t sure how the injuries were going to affect us but the girls really stepped up and played at the next level,? Land said.
‘Heather was able to play and make some plays in the field and at the plate. I thought her play was very inspirational and took a lot of pride. The kids saw Heather out there and I think it inspired them.?
The status of both players availability for the regional competition is up in the air at this time.
The Wolves are slated to play Walled Lake Western at West Bloomfield on Saturday, June 7 at 10 a.m.
