Water Meter Reading System -The Village took bids for a Water Meter Reading System that would allow the township to wirelessly read the water meters of residences in the village. DPW Superintendent Mike Olsen outlined the bidding process and his recommendation for the purchse, which consisted of a bid from Michigan Meter in the amount of $164,759. This was the recommendation from Feb. 28. Councilman John Ranville said he thought it was a bad idea, especially at a time when the village cannot ‘afford $6,000 for lifeguards and we’re trying to pay for this water system?? Councilman David Churchill questioned the value of replacing the current system for such a high amount. Village Manager Paul Zelenak cited one reason for the instalation is to save money in the long run as the cost of labor continues to rise and this system would cut down on man-hours.
Michigan Vehicle Code Ordinance – Lake Orion Police Chief brought to the village’s attention the need to address fines and penalties relating to the Michigan Drunk Driving Laws. To do this, the village had to create an ordinance which was an amendment to the Michigan Vehicle Cod Ordinance. The change includes the penalty for a new offense – commonly called the Super Drunk Driver law.
