Highway named in honor-The Michigan House May 17 approved legislation sponsored by state Rep. Brad Jacobsen designating a portion of M-24 in Oakland County as the Gold Star Memorial Highway.
A Gold Star family is anyone who has experienced the loss of an immediate family member who has died in a combat zone while serving in any branch of the U.S. armed forces.
House Bill 5291 renames the portion of M-24 from southern Lake Orion through northern Oxford in Oakland County as the ‘Gold Star Memorial Highway? in honor of these families.
‘Our troops deserve respect for putting their lives on the line to protect us, but we need to remember that their families back home are sacrificing as well,? said Representative Brad Jacobsen. ‘Renaming part of M-24 in recognition of their sacrifice to our country is the least we can do to show our gratitude.?
The resolution now heads to the Senate for consideration.
