Scarecrow Festival returns Oct. 20

The Oxford Downtown Development Authority is celebrating the fall season in downtown Oxford by holding its annual Scarecrow Festival on Saturday, October 20th from 2- 6pm.
The event will feature an array of scarecrows displayed in front of businesses along Washington Street as well as lining the perimeter of Centennial Park. In addition, a Kidz Zone, Teen Zone, Pet Zone, a Farm Market and Chili Cook-off sponsored by the Oxford Chamber of Commerce will fill the park.
‘The Oxford DDA is excited to bring residents and visitors to downtown Oxford to explore the unique businesses and delicious restaurants right here? said Madonna Van Fossen, Executive Director of the Oxford Downtown Development Authority. ‘Our festival is FREE to the public and features family-friendly activities filled with fun that kids of any age can enjoy!?
Additional activities incorporated into this year’s Scarecrow Festival include an Artisan Alley featuring unique homemade gifts, a Hay Maze, crafts and inflatables for kids to jump in, several ‘FYI? vendors, plus a Skate & Bike Park hosted by Dubz Bikes and Boards who will be celebrating their first birthday with the Scarecrow Festival. A Road Rally hosted by Oxford Township Parks and Recreation and a bake sale sponsored by local churches will add to the festivities. Proceeds from the Church Bake Sales will benefit Blessings in a Backpack.
This year the Scarecrow Contest will be open to the public. Anyone who wishes to enter should bring their creations to Centennial Park on October 20 between 12noon ? 2pm or submit a photograph of your scarecrow to the DDA office by 12noon on October 19th.
Oxford Home, Garden & Pet will be hosting pony rides from their store
The Howl-ween Pet Parade is also back and will begin at 4:30pm. Those owners who want to enter their pets, dressed in their best Halloween outfits, need to pre-register that day. All proceeds from this parade will be donated to Canine Companion Rescue Centre.
Many of the stores downtown will be offering Trick-or-Treating for kids and be sure to stop by the DDA Information Booth, during the festival, to pick up a Scary Sales bag filled with coupons redeemable in businesses within the DDA.
