Lady golfers win first-ever OC championship

PONTIAC ? The Oxford girls? varsity golf team did what no other Wildcat girls? golf team has ever done ? win an Oakland County golf championship.
The Lady Cats won the Division II Oakland County golf title by one stroke over Lahser High School last week.
Coach Terry Kelley said the lady linksters from Oxford had been runners-up at least four times in prior years before crashing through at Pontiac Municipal Golf Course to claim the trophy.
‘It was great for the girls,? Kelley said. ‘They worked hard and played very well.?
The team’s top scorer, junior Kyla Kurczewski, led the Cats along with junior Emily Cleland.
Fellow co-captain senior Riley Hayes was the third top scorer for Oxford.
Junior Emily Kalohn, sophomore Alicia Kuligowski and freshman Claire Hurford are the other contributors on the team.
The Wildcats are 4-1 in OAA league play and have two meets remaining, on Tuesday of this week versus Groves at home and then at Lahser.
Regional competition begins on October 11.
