Bowlers wasted no time knocking down pins as they began their season last week.
They started with the OAA Singles Championship at Collier Lanes in Oxford.
For the Clarkston Girls Varsity Bowling team Danielle Hopkins qualfied in seventh with scores of 191, 161 and 171 for a series of 523. It took a score of 517 to make match play for the girls.
She won her first match with a score of 159 to 150. She lost her second match to eventually win the tournament with a score of 164 to 257.
Sophie Hubble had a 210 game and a series of 514. She missed the cut by three pins.
For the boys varsity team, Kyle Kirby qualified in third play with scores of 212, 205 and 227 for a series of 644. He won his first match of 256 to 233, won his second match by a score of 268 to 170 and eventually lost to the tournament winner by a score of 175 to 223.
The top five scores from qualifying won medalist honors. Kirby received medalist honors for qualifying third and finishing second, Hopkins for finishing third and Kersten for finishing fifth with a score of 234.
The teams headed off against Oxford where both varsity teams won their matches.
The girls finished with 23 out of 30 points with scores of 173 and 190 from Hubble; 192 and 159 from Hopkins; 169 and 138 from Chelsea Turk, 127 and 166 from Tess Horowitz; and 157 and 152 from Vicki Wolfgang.
The boys won 21 out of 30 points. Kersten bowled 208 and 200; Kirby, 187 and 219; Brock Nowak, 195 and 145; Anthony Hernandez, 177; and Eric Wagner 243 and 196.
“They did really well like we expected them to,” said Coach Lenny Kersten. “The first week was definitely a success. We are on our way. They are coming together as a team. They are cheering each other and helping.”
The boys JV team split their points with Nick Treece, Kris Adair, Tyler DeLeary and Evan Farough bowling over 200.
The teams head to Troy on Thursday and host Lake Orion on Tuesday at Cherry Hill Lanes.
