Oxford bowling has been busy to start the season.
The boys and girls had their first losses of the year in head-to-head competition to Clarkston. The boys lost 21-9 and the girls, 23-7.
Senior captain Shawn Donaldson’s threw games of 235 and 214, Sophomore Drew Pappas rolled games of 206 and 204 and senior Kevon Dixon had a 201.
The girls won the first game 159 to 156 but lost game two, 160 to 134. Winning points in match play were freshman Hannah Farmer, senior captain Brooke Harris and sophomore Alyssa Hurlburt.
In junior varsity competition, freshman Luke Delong had a 254 game. Junior Jason Petty rolled a solid 224 and freshmen Jason Clark tossed a 234 game.
Oxford’s varsity went tournament bowling on Saturday at Drakeshire Lanes in Farmington.
Both the girls and the boys took third place.
The girls were lead by Caitlyn Wroblewski’s 610 series and 241 game. Also chipping in with fine performances was Farmer with games of 210 and 200. Hurlburt had games of 196 and 200 and Harris threw 194 and 192.
Wroblewski was named to the all tournament team for her 241 game.
The boys were lead by Sean McKinney, who had games of 225,264,and 205 for a 694 series. He was named to the all tournament team for his efforts.
Kyle Woody excited the crowd when he had the first 9 strikes in row en route to a solid 277 game. Woody also added games of 201 and 179 for a series of 657.
Also bowling well in the event was Shawn Donaldson with games of 199 and 231 and a 590 series and Brandon Hurlburt had a 571 series.
‘While the loss to Clarkston was not much fun, the tournament was very exciting, said Coach JR Lafnear.
‘The kids really rallied and they bowled well all day Saturday. The boys were a little shorted handed with a couple bowlers inactive and the team battled to finish in the third spot,? he said. ‘The girls were a treat to watch. They were having fun and bowling well. They did a wonderful job all day and everyone on the team stepped up to bring home the third place trophy.?
