While getting a pedicure at J.C. Nails in Oxford, Bridges English Teacher and Yearbook Adviser Aileen Myers was asked by owner Lena Nguyen if she knew anyone who knows how to paint.
Nguyen wanted a mural on the wall behind the ‘kids pedicure? station.
Myers said she did.
Having had two students, Alana Whims and Autumn Desmaris, who painted a mural in another teacher’s classroom, Myers recommended them for the project.
‘They do a really great job, so I decided to ask them if they were interested,? she said. ‘They used their spring break to come here and contribute and earn some money for the year book.?
‘It was also a great way to be a part of the community and to get themselves out there and take part in what’s going on around Oxford,? added Myers.
Whims thought it was ‘awesome? that she got recommended for the job by Myers.
‘For high school students (doing the mural) I think it looks pretty cool,? Whims said.
Nguyen agreed.
‘When I offered Aileen the job to do the art on the wall she was so excited. She and her students helped me a lot with the idea. They did a great job on the wall. I love it,? she said. ‘If I have more business I will have the community high school students help me and make some money for their school.?
