Well, Steve Mitchell, Goodrich High School theater director thinks so and anticipates that local audiences will find the spring play rounds up some serious laughter.
‘I like to do new things, too,? he said. ‘In years past I’ve pushed the envelope and have been rather serious for the spring plays. However, this spring, in the absence of a true musical, we’re going to get more students involved and present a hilarious melodrama.?
?’How the West Was Dun,? by Christopher Gieschen, takes aim at many spoofs of old Hollywood westerns, along with some modern touches to boot,? he said. ‘The younger crowd will enjoy this play and it features a narrator to keep the characters on stage in line.?
The story line includes Slick and wealthy Richard Coldheart, who must marry Polly Wanda Cracker to control the Cracker property. However, it’s Polly’s homely sister, Prunella, who wants to marry him. Meanwhile, (hero) Sheriff Wayne John, has to work with not too bright Deputy Doowrong. Many villains are in the cast, including Snydley Dastardley, Kid Kid and Calamity Jan, attempting to take over Low Humidity Chasm. Other characters include Schizophrenic Kid and Blacker Bart.
Performances are at 7 p.m. April 25, 26, and 27, at Goodrich High School. The Sunday matinee starts at 2:30 p.m. Tickets at the door. Details: 810-591-2251.
