Softball still ‘a team to watch out for?

With a current record of 4-7-1 as of May 4, Softball Head Coach Lindsey Long said that the 2013 Oxford Varsity Softball team ‘is a team to watch out for.?
‘I have been coaching all levels of volleyball, swimming and softball, from recreation to varsity for the past 11 years and I have never had a better group of well-rounded, amazing girls,? Long said. ‘The pride we show for Oxford and the community is limitless.?
This year’s team is comprised of six returnees and six new players. Long said senior Autumn Cervantez, who has signed to play for North Dakota State University, ‘has a heart of gold for the game.? Jess Palumbo, who has signed with Olivet, ‘brings a passionate edge to the team,? Brooke Harris ‘covers and plays the mound as if it is her throne, with stellar defensive skills.? Alexis Straub is back on the field after being out all last season with an injury and is ready to play wherever she’s needed. Also, senior Lou Downey, who is a transfer student this year, ‘has all around assets that have shined throughout the entire season.?
Long called junior Ally Edgemon ‘versatile with a great bat? and ‘speedy sophomore? Cherolyn Banas has the ability ‘to hit from anywhere in the box,? while sophomore Skye Donaldson, in center field, ‘has a stellar arm.?
Freshmen Maddie Ellinger is an ‘all-around utility player with great versatility,? while Alicia Angular has a ‘knowledge and love for the game that is difficult to come by.? Another great addition to the team, according to Long, is Kelsey Harrison who ‘can cover a lot of ground in the outfield? and Taylor Leppick who is ‘all-around speedy.?
‘This team has the potential to go as far as they desire. We plan on winning our league and making it as far as we can in the tournament play,? added Long. ‘Every girl on this team is valuable and has their role to fill.?
