Brandon Hawks hockey squad falls to Clarkston

On June 30, the Brandon Hawks summer hockey team dropped an exciting 8-5 decision to M-15 rival Clarkston at Lakeland Arena in Waterford.
Zack Doyen and Steve Tallman contributed a goal and two assists each for Brandon, while Mike Cybulski added two goals. Brian Quarrella threaded a shot into the top shelf for Brandon’s fifth goal.
Andrew Fisher played a big game on defense for Brandon, while Brandon Verkerke and Craig Skidmore added to Brandon’s offensive firepower.
In their previous game, the team tied Waterford Kettering High School 3-3.
Kettering jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but Brendon Moquin’s blast from the point pulled Brandon within one. Scott Thurman then added two goals to put the Hawks ahead 3-2, the second coming after a nifty end to end rush and feed from Doyen.
Kettering scored to tie it with just over a minute left, and neither team could produce a winning goal in the last minute. Tallman and Tony Kraydich played well offensively for Brandon, while Matt Ruppert, Scotty Steudle, and Alex Hockey joined Moquin and Ruppert in anchoring the defense. David Hughes made 26 saves for Brandon.
