Grant sought to mark safety path crossings

Oxford Township officials are hoping to obtain a grant that will make it safer for pedestrians to cross certain well-traveled intersections.
Last week, the township board voted 7-0 to apply for a $5,000 grant from the Michigan Township Participating Plan to place pedestrian crosswalk markings at 16 intersections where roads and safety paths meet.
‘Several of these intersections are blind intersections where the driver has to pull through the safety path crossing in order to see oncoming (vehicular) traffic,? according to the grant application.
It’s hoped these crosswalk markings will encourage drivers to stop at these intersections and watch for pedestrian traffic before they proceed through them.
Making drivers aware that they may have to yield to safety path users is expected to help reduce the possibility of accidents.
