Are you a biker looking to ride for a good cause? Then get out to BullFrogs in Ortonville on July 13, for the Fourth Annual Rubber & Roads Charity Bike Ride and Dinner.
The ride is to honor Anna Boeck who died of leukemia in January 2010. Boeck was the fianc’e to the brother of Rubber & Roads, non-profit founder Eric Ghiaciuc, a 2000 Oxford High School graduate and former NFL player. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the University of Michigan Children’s Hospital.
‘U of M has a great program there and it was only fitting that we thought we’d donate to them this year,? noted Ghiaciuc.
This year’s ride is a joint effort between ‘Rubber & Roads,? and ‘Sister Souls Inc.,? a nonprofit based in Lake Orion. Ghiaciuc said working with Sister Souls has been ‘great.?
‘Kim (Casper) with Sister Souls has been amazing. She is just phenomenal, has a lot of energy and is very positive,? he said. ‘There isn’t any idea (from her) that’s a bad idea. Anything for the cause she works very hard and is very good to work with – She rubs off on you.?
Sister Souls likewise is ‘is truly thankful for the experience of working with Rubber & Roads.?
‘Stacy (Blaine, co-founder of Sister Souls Inc.) and I have learned a great deal from organizing multiple charity events for children,? Casper said. ‘Eric’s knowledge of charity bike rides, and the heartfelt effort that he dedicates to this run annually continues to inspire us. This motorcycle charity ride for the University of Michigan Children’s Hospital will be a fun and gratifying event for all.?
Registration is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at BullFrogs (2225 S. Ortonville Road.) Cost is $20 per rider or $30 per couple and includes patch, ride and dinner.
From BullFrogs riders will travel to and stop at Bottoms Up Food & Spirits in Holly, Madden’s Lounge in Davison, Ray C’s Harley Davidson in Lapeer, and Chicky’s Paradise Saloon in Almont, before returning to BullFrogs. ‘It’s exciting. A lot of people come out,? Ghiaciuc said, who’s predicting 250 people will attend. ‘Those who don’t ride like to see the bikes, it’s a big deal to see 20, 30, 40, 100 bikes roll by.?
The dinner, which starts around 5 p.m. at BullFrogs will include various prizes for a 50/50 raffle and silent auction, as well as a live painting auction from speed painter Dave Santia and a DJ to play music.
‘It will be great,? Ghiaciuc added.
