Bakers win bullet

n addition to its many cakes and other sugary delights, downtown Oxford’s Sweet & Savory Bake Shop now has some precious metal on display.
The 9 S. Washington St. business won the Silver Bullet Good Deeds contest for the 250 Lone Ranger cupcakes it created and donated for the movie sneak preview/statue fund-raiser held July 2 at the Oxford 7 Theater. Each of the cupcakes featured a hand-cut Lone Ranger-style fondant mask.
The contest prize, a .45-caliber sterling silver bullet created by local jeweler Mark A. Young, is now on display at the bakery for all to see and enjoy.
‘It was a huge honor,? said Sweet & Savory co-owner Scott Eschelbach. ‘When you do good, it comes full circle and this an example of that. It was a very nice surprise.?
A total of 129 silver certificates were submitted for the contest. Each certificate represents a good deed, a selfless act or some volunteer work performed by participants. ? Editor C.J. Carnacchio
