Members of the Oxford-based VFW Post 334 recently visited the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids.
This is where 140 children are being cared for by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Michigan has four homes there with two families living in each one.
A family consists of a mother and her children. The father was a serviceman who died fighting for his country.
However, there are also a large number of children with no parents, some less than a year old, all cared for by the National Home staff.
The children living at the VFW National Home attend Eaton Rapids Schools and college scholarships are available for every high school graduate through the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The VFW National Home for children was started in 1922 with an old farm house.
Today, it’s a sprawling campus containing a community center, child care center, chapel, fire station, museum, administrative offices, playgrounds and parks.
It is supported by every VFW Post in the United States including Post 334.

A 14-seat van was provided courtesy of Golling Buick GMC to transport Post 334 members and their wives to Eaton Rapids.
