Clarkston’s Breast Cancer Survivor Group meets at 7-9 p.m., second Tuesday of the month except July and August, at 21st Century Oncology, 6770 Dixie Highway, Suite 106.
The group offers a variety of programs on the latest developments in the field, maintaining a healthy life style, and enjoying life after breast cancer.
“A cancer diagnosis is a devastating experience,? said Jo Vaara, organizer. “Statistics have proven support groups have helped patients recover more rapidly.”
The group, formerly known as Breast Cancer Support Group, started in 1994.
“Some of us have remained from the beginning to offer information, encouragement, hope and help to get through the crisis of diagnosis, options, treatment, and recovery,” Vaara said.
Presenters include physicians, surgeons, oncologists, therapists, chiropractors, herbalists, nutritionists, and other experts, she said.
“We also include hands on projects, yoga, spa treatments, etc.,” she said. ‘Occasionally we have programs to which husbands, parents, significant others and friends are invited.”
