As far as ‘outlook on the season,? Girls Swim and Dive Coach Jacquelyn Rank is expecting this to be their ‘best swim and dive season yet.?
‘We have some very talented incoming swimmers to go along with our more veteran swimmers and divers,? Rank said.
Leading the charge are senior captains Elizabeth Wilkins, Elise Ormiston, and Haley Kornburger, as well as junior Captain Sydney Liverance.
‘I think this group of girls will do, and have already done, so much to organize and motivate the team as a whole,? noted Rank.
The team is comprised of four divers and 35 swimmers for a total of 39 girls. Of the 39 girls, 25 of them are returnees from last season.
As far as season goals go, Rank said they are ‘hoping to improve their standings from last season and have a lot of fun doing it.?
‘The league is very competitive, but that should make for a very exciting season and league meet,? she added. ‘One thing worth noting is our move to Division I, which affects the qualifying times that the girls must make to be eligible to compete. We will be doing our best to rise to the occasion.?
For tournaments, Rank said they are looking forward to hosting the OAA White Division League Meet this year on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
As for the team chemistry, rather than breaking down each swimmer, Rank noted that ‘each athlete brings something different to the team.?
‘I’m going to let the girls make a name for themselves,? she said. ‘We have a large senior class (of 10 girls), so that will be a big blow for next season. Therefore, we just want to really enjoy this season and see how far the team dynamic can take us.?
The girls will take the pool next at 6 p.m. on Sept. 26 at West Bloomfield. Their next home meet will be Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. at Oxford High School.
