OXFORD TWP. ? A Sept. 25 argument between siblings over internet service in the Lake Villa Manufactured Home Community was allegedly settled with a can of bear repellent.
Ron Joseph Chislett, 53, of Oxford, was charged with domestic assault, a misdemeanor, after he allegedly sprayed his 50-year-old sister in the face with a can of pepper spray designed to repel bears.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, the sister and Chislett were arguing over internet service when she walked into his bedroom with the intention of typing the internet pass code into his iPad.
At that point, Chislett allegedly grabbed a can of bear pepper spray and released it directly into her eyes.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, the sister’s eyes were red and swollen shut. She was also having trouble breathing. She was treated at the scene.
Deputies were unable to enter the mobile home because the air was filled with pepper spray. Oxford firefighters had to use a large fan to ventilate the premises.
Chislett, who’s confined to a wheelchair, was arrested without incident.
Chislett told deputies he thought his sister was going to take his iPad, so he released the pepper spray on the floor, according to the report. He denied spraying her in the face and refused to write a statement.
