The honors keep coming for Lake Orion High School’s yearbook staff as the group won a Spartan award for last year’s outstanding yearbook.
The Spartan, given by the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA), is the most prestigious state-wide award given to a high school media outlet and is another in a string of Spartans the group has received in recent years..
The staff worked all year long to win the coveted honor.
‘Putting the yearbook together was definitely a lot of work,? Hamna Hasan said. ‘Every day required some new task, and at times it was incredibly stressful.?
The writers, editors and photographers worked every day during, and often after, school to complete what ended up being an award-winning yearbook, and will be recognized at MIPA’s spring award ceremony.
‘It was really exciting to have all of our hard work pay off from last year,? Savanna Smirnow said. ‘There is so much more that goes into building the yearbook than people realize, and it’s nice to get some recognition for all of the time and effort we put in.?
The high school is part of the ‘MIPA Hall of Fame,? and has won countless Spartans in previous years for their yearbooks.
As the staff’s current editor-in-chief, Smirnow was expected to continue the pattern. ‘This year we’re doing something a little different with the yearbook, but I have confidence that it will turn out how we are planning it so we can win another Spartan next year.?
For now, the staff continues to work hard in hopes of winning next year’s Spartan. They continue to put forth the dedication and the hours needed to create another first-rate yearbook for their school.
‘It’s all worth it. It’s really great to know that your high school liked your creation that you worked so hard on,? Hasan said.
