Experiencing a trade mission in Mexico

Jeff Nichols and Daniel Bryant are visiting Mexico. They are part of a delegation made up of Oakland County officials and local businesses attending PAACE, central America’s premier trade show for automotive aftermarket parts and accessories.
Nichols will be a senior at Lake Orion High School and Bryant is a recent graduate of LOHS.
The two, along with De’Quesha Petty, a 10th grader at Pontiac Central High School, were picked to experience a real trade mission because of their performance in May at the Oakland County Global Trade Mission event.
GTM, in its fifth year, is sponsored by the Automation Alley Trading Company and Oakland Schools. The three day event serves as an introduction to international trade and business for high school students.
Approximately 150 students from 15 high schools in the county worked with teachers in cross-district teams to respond to one of five Global Challenges written for GTM.
Each team had to develop a comprehensive business plan that focuses on the development, marketing and selling of a specific product.
Students used a variety of resources to research their plan, in person and in virtual formats. On the final day of the GTM, they gave presentations of their projects to business executives involved in global trade
The team judged to have the best overall business plan was given the opportunity to experience a real trade mission
Automation Alley is a consortium of progressive technology organizations in southeastern Michigan. One of its initiatives helps area companies develop growth opportunities through global partnering.
The program includes four trade missions to foreign markets through 2003.
