Twenty-two Lake Orion athletes competed in the Hershey State Track and Field Meet on July 11 in Howell, Michigan.
Over 950 athletes from around the state, representing over 60 communities, competed in the annual meet. Jacob Miller, a student at Pine Tree Elementary in Lake Orion, won the boys 9-10-year-old 50-meter dash championship. Miller had the second fastest time after the preliminary round races, then he ran a spectacular race in the finals to bring home Lake Orion’s sole championship.
Other Lake Orion students who earned all-state recognition were: The 11-12-year-old girls division 4 x meter relay team of Allegra Recknagel, Jessica Labond, Jaime Tasco and Devan Moore, finishing in fourth place; Kyle Young, competing in the 9-10-year-old boys division, placing fifth in the standing long jump.
Also winning for Lake Orion were: In the 11-12-year-old boys 4 x 100 meter relay, the team of Joseph Becker, Austin Mahoney, Ryan Zmierski and Vinny Booker, finishing in eighth place.
Also competing in the meet for Lake Orion were: Tasia Whitehead, Kristie Good, Ashley Good, Natalie Ray, Amanda Mocny, Diane McNulty, Allie Hock, Leah Deeg, Rich Eaton, Matthew Kuehl, Doug Mack and DJ McGahey.
