The Oxford Boys Dive and Swim team gave their all this past weekend at the Oakland County Swimming meet held at Waterford Mott High School.
On Friday night, Oxford’s divers scored a total of 27 points with a fifth place finish for Jared Tasch with 239.85 points and a sixth place finish for Marco Campagiorni with 231.90 points. They had been ranked eighth and ninth going into the meet.
‘I’m very pleased with all of the boys for placing higher than they were ranked on the psych sheet, said Head Coach Jackie Rank.
Due to the snow storm Saturday the swim meet was pushed back to Sunday. Oxford finished 16th overall in the County with 43 points.
The 200 Medley Relay of Cheyne Stresky, Chad Scribner, Erick Vandecar, and Sean Terry took 15th place with a season-best time of 1:47.91. Erick Vandecar moved up from 40th place to 34th place in the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 58.16. Chad Scribner dropped in the 500 freestyle from 32nd place to 38th place with a time of 5:21.32.
‘This was only Chad’s second time swimming the 500 freestyle,? Rank noted. ‘I am very pleased with both this time and his entry time.?
Cheyne Stresky moved up from 20th place to 10th place in the 500 freestyle with a personal-best time of 4:54.35 which qualifies him for the Division I State Meet at Saginaw Valley State University in March. The 200 Free Relay of Erick Vandecar, Armando Vega, Chad Scribner, and Sean Terry moved up from 24th place to 18th place with a season-best time of 1:36.98. Cheyne Stresky dropped from 13th place to 16th place in the 100 backstroke despite a season-best time of 57.30. The 400 Free Relay of Erick Vandecar, Armando Vega, Sean Terry, and Cheyne Stresky held their 15th place ranking with a season-best time of 3:28.38.
‘We had some great performances and I hope they boost each athlete’s confidence. We have a very talented group of boys and it’s nice to see them recognized for their hard work,? Rank said. Placing 16th in Oakland County is pretty impressive for such a young team without a feeder program in Oxford.?
Earlier in the week the boys lost to Farmington/Harrison (a joint team with members from both schools) 103 ? 80. A contributing factor to the loss, noted Rank was that six athletes didn’t compete due to illnesses and injuries.
