The magic of Mardi Gras is in the spotlight as the Orion Art Center celebrates its 25th anniversary Gala during an elegant evening of art, dinner, music and glamour on March 1.
‘We’re so excited about this year’s event,? says OAC Director Lauren Dinneweth. ‘The Gala is just three days before Mardi Gras, a holiday that carries so much fun, history and mystique. It’s a magical escape and a great way to raise money for the arts.?
The Mardi Gras themed event includes a cocktail reception, gourmet meal, open premium bar, and raffle extravaganza with prizes including sporting events, restaurants and getaways.
The 2014 Gala is the Orion Art Center’s black tie optional event to benefit the Art Center and Dragon on the Lake, the popular summer festival. The evening is set for March 1, 2014 and takes place at the historic Addison Oaks Ballroom.
The Artist of the Year to be honored at this year’s Gala is mixed media artist Laura Locke, who recreates vintage images using fabric and collage. Laura’s work will also be on display during the evening.
The OAC also honors a Patron of the Year, someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty in the name of the Art Center.
This year Brenda Pescia will receive the award. Pescia leads the Orion Art Center’s new pottery studio. She’s also helped organize the OAC’s Holiday Market and Dragon on the Lake and has served as an OAC Board member for more than two years.
‘Brenda is truly deserving of this award,? said Dinneweth. ‘Everything she’s led has been as a volunteer. Her expertise was invaluable in organizing our new pottery studio. She brings an amazing work ethic, enthusiasm and ideas to everything she’s involved in.?
Gala supporters include the McLaren Cancer Institute, Waste Management, M & B Graphics, Diamond Dave’s Creative Jewelers, Community Lifestyles, The Lake Orion Review, the Oakland Press, Lymtal International, the Chadwick Group, OCS Design, Quicken Loans, North Bloomfield Properties and Belle Visage Laser Med Spa.
Festivities begin at 6:30pm. Tickets are $95 per person or $900 for a table of 10. Make reservations by calling 248-693-4986 or visit www.OrionArtCenter.org. Tickets are tax deductible.
