Applicants sought for youth govt., police programs

Oxford High School juniors interested in learning more about the inner workings of government or pursuing a career in law enforcement can pick up applications in the counseling office for summer programs.
Sponsored locally by Oxford American Legion Post 108 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 108, Boys State and Girls State afford young people an excellent opportunity to learn how local, county and state governments work by participating in every facet of the democratic process, from running elections to formulating public policy.
Boys State will be held June 15-21 at Northwood University in Midland. Girls State will take place during that same time, but on the campus of Michigan State University.
The Student Trooper Program, also sponsored by the American Legion, will be held at the Michigan State Police Training Academy in Lansing from July 7-11.
Geared toward students interested in pursuing a police career, this program involves intense physical and educational training.
