Lake Orion students once again proved they are the best of the best.
This time they did it with their creativity.
Of the 90 winners that were picked from cities in Michigan, nine students from Lake Orion high school’s AP art program were selected as ‘gold key? winners in a Scholastic Art competition, and many more were selected as runner-ups.
Estee Schlenner, a junior at Lake Orion, submitted photographs into the competition, and was rewarded with two silver keys? the equivalent of second place.
‘I was really happy and excited when I found out [that I won]. I draw, but I decided to send in my photography because that’s my concentration in AP art.?
Many of the students said they were preparing for this competition for much of their high school careers.
Megan Prawdzik, who was given an honorable mention for her ebony and colored pencil self-portrait, has been drawing since she was a child.
‘When I was little, I always used to enter those drawing contests that [are in] the Orion Review. I won like three of those, and that really got me into drawing,? Prawdzik said.
Many other students won awards from the competition, including Jayme Jones, Zach Miskowski, Autumn Nickson, Casey O’Brien, Catherine Robertson, Nick Sally, James Squires, Kyle Wells, Rebeca Zimmerman, Leah Little, Katelyn Roberts, Craig Matola, James Byers, Shanel Burny, Kara Calvert, Anna Choi, Riane Crowdus, Myka Flint, Miriam Knight, Jon Monat, Kira Pennock, Sarah Simpson, and Michael Zielinsky.
These students? artwork will be presented at the high school.
