The Lady Wildcats got ate up on the hardwood at their district match against the Clarkston Wolves with a 36-41 loss after keeping them in check for three quarters.
‘Unfortunately for the Wildcats it takes four quarters to complete a basketball game,? said team statistician Brian Murphy.
Oxford (14-7) held Clarkston to 15 points in the first two quarters and took a seven point lead into the half time. However during the critical third quarter nothing seemed to go right for the Wildcats and Clarkston dominated the quarter with an 18 ? 2 run. The Wildcats battled back in the fourth, cutting the lead to four points late in the game, but were unable to dig themselves out of from the deficit created by the disastrous third quarter.
Clarkston was led by junior Erica Davenport with 25 points. Oxford was led by junior Jessica Murphy with 19 points. Skye Donaldson chipped in 9 for the Wildcats and for three quarters held Miss. Davenport in check.
‘For the Wildcats, the season ends on a disappointing note, however the team should be proud of their efforts towards re-establishing the Oxford girls basketball program,? Brian added. ‘This is the second season of 14 plus wins, and with a strong cast returning next year led by Jessica Murphy, Skye Donaldson and Cherilyn Banas, the future looks bright.?
