The Wolves added two wins to their overall record last week by defeating Haslett and University of Detroit – Jesuit High School.
‘I am very happy with the way they played and how they approached the week,? said Clarkston Boys Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach Brian Kaminskas. ‘The team and the program itself are coming together good. They are really starting to mesh together really well. We played as close to our standards as we could.?
He added the team, as well as other spring sports teams, are still facing challenges with practices.
The boys opened the week with a home game against Haslett on April 1 to win 13-5.
Reid Kaminski led the team with four goals. Connor Ward added two to the score and Keaton Mitchell scored two goals and had one assist. Robert Hall assisted on two goals for the night.
The boys made a total of 19 shots on the net and goalie Jake Hendricks made 14 saves against Haslett.
‘The ace was DJ Rogers which is nice because we are getting all these different players every week and every game stepping up and putting the team on their shoulders,? Kaminskas said. ‘They are taking it to another level.?
He added Hendricks had a great week with his two wins in the net for both nights. Hendricks had ten saves against University of Detroit – Jesuit on Thursday.
Andrew Williamson led the team in the 13-6 win over the Cubs. He scored three goals during the game. Connor Dziewit, Hall and Kaminski added two goals each during the game.
‘One of the challenges we had last week was those were two teams we had never played before,? Kaminskas said. ‘We didn’t know a whole lot about them. We knew we would be tested and the guys responded quite well. We still have a young defense and teams are aware of it. Our opponents made their stops to attack us. We responded appropriately.?
He added defense played well considering some of the players are out.
‘They played very well going into break,? he said. ‘Some of our guys are a little banged up so it is day to day who will play what position and where right now. Even the guys coming off the bench are stepping in and they are contributing. Defense has been very strong for us.?
The boys headed south this week for spring break for not only some fun but also to practice and bond with their teammates.
‘Rather than have the kids go wherever and do who knows what we take the team together every year for break,? Kaminskas said. ‘It is an opportunity to help the guys get better with lacrosse, have some fun and enjoy the break as well.?
The Wolves come back from break to play their first OAA Red game against Farmington on Tuesday. JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
‘They are really good athletes,? Kaminskas said.
