Of six bids ranging from $16,900 to over $88,000, village council awarded Stephen Auger + Associates Architects, INC. of Lake Orion to sculpt the design plans for the new village hall to be located at 21 E. Church St. at the council meeting Wednesday, April 16.
SA&A was the second lowest bid, coming in at around $22,450, and will be in charge of creating the design plans, construction documents and bid documents to bid out to the future contractor who will rebuild’the old senior center.
Building modifications will include construction of new walls for the administrative office, furnishings, and re-carpeting, but the bigger project will be the police department.
The new LOPD department will include a clerical area, chief’s office, workspace for the police officers, a holding facility, an interrogation room, and some storage space for equipment. Funding will also be used for updated technology and to restore the original church section for the new village council chambers.??
The village sold their current hall on Flint St. to Lockharts BBQ of Royal Oak for $525,000, money that will be used for reconstruction of the new village hall.
The total cost of the project will be around $808,000, Village Manager Darwin McClary said, with around $300,000 coming in from additional sources. Funds from the Lake Orion police fund balance, public works funding, the water and sewer fund, the Oakland County Water Resources Commission and Oakland County IT services will be pooled together to pay off the remaining costs as they will all share a part in the new facility.
Apart from the $525,000 the village will contribute from the general fund, the village will throw in an additional $6,000.
The village hopes to complete the facility assessment by the end of April, the design process in May, draft the construction documents by June, finish the bidding and negotiations contract by July, and complete the actual construction by the end of November.
