Every spring and every fall, like clockwork, Oxford Middle School’s sixth-graders leave the confines of their classrooms to conduct some water quality tests in the great outdoors.
The students got to exercise their scientific skills on nearby Parker Lake.
Using samples taken from the lake, they tested the water’s levels of nitrates, phosphates and dissolved oxygen along with pH levels. They also searched for organisms such as macroinvertebrates.
Once more into the pond
Sixth-graders at Oxford Middle School put on their thinking caps last week and spent some time exploring the retention pond on their school’s property.
From identifying acquatic life in the pond to testing its water quality, the students analyzed and recorded every detail with precision.
The results will be forwarded to the Clinton River Watershed Council.
