Jack Villella took off his eyeglasses and held up the invention he finished working on in the Design Studio module last Wednesday at Camp Invention.
“I am making something to help people see better,” he explained, holding the contraption up to his eyes.
Around him other campers were busily creating for the day’s mission, which was make an invention to make people’s lives better.
Beth Rogers, a teacher at Springfield Plains Elementary, explained this year’s overall theme for Camp Invention is ‘Morphed.?
“They are taking things and morphing them in other things,” she added.
Young inventors in the SuperGo module were working on a vehicle to not only drive on land but could also fly and go under water.
They also worked with their five different senses in Amplify and used teamwork to create a pinball machine in I Can Invent.
In each module, the campers ‘upcycle? materials – finding a new purpose for them.
Camp Invention is a week long camp for students going into grades 1-6. It focuses on creativity and teamwork while intergrating science, math, history and art.
“Camp Invention is really responsive to the feedback we give them,” Rogers said, adding the camp changes every year.
