Vehicle hits home

A 32-year-old Reno Street man was cited by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department for leaving the scene of an accident causing damage, failing to report an accident and reckless driving after his vehicle struck a home on Reno on July 28.
According to an OCSD report, another 32-year-old Reno Street man called police after he heard a loud crash and saw a truck backing out of a driveway and fleeing the scene. The man said the truck struck an unoccupied home, causing damage to the outside corner, siding and door.
Deputies observed skid and tire marks on the driveway and lawn. They spoke with a Reno Street man at the home where the truck was parked, and the man said the truck belonged to his roommate who was sleeping. He said he could not wake his roommate up at the time because he was a heavy sleeper.
The OCSD impounded the truck and asked the man to have his roommate contact them. He did, and he told deputies he was unfamiliar with the area and had tried to stop but his brakes had locked up. He slid on loose gravel and struck the home.
According to the man, he had knocked on the door but no one answered, and that he had contacted the home’s owner and intended to pay for the damage.
