Thanks for Shoes help
The Clarkston Area Lions were again privileged this year to participate in our local Rotary Shoes for Kids distribution program. We wish to commend the Rotary for this wonderful event where 300-400 local children received new boots and shoes as well as hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, socks and toothbrushes!
I don’t know of any other charitable event as effective as this one where donations are collected one weekend and the benefits disbursed the next.
There was a cadre of cheerful volunteers and so many happy children and their families. On our part we performed 122 of our free Project Kidsight vision screenings and received countless shy little ‘thank yous? from our participants. What a delight!
We want to thank the Clarkston Rotary and Oakland Woods Baptist Church for providing us with this opportunity to serve. We think special kudos should go out to Joel DeLong and his family for the tremendous amount of work they put into this project though out the year.
And last, but not least, none of it would be possible without the generosity of the Clarkston community. Thanks for buying all those White Canes and Goodfellow papers!
Happy Holidays, everyone. You made it a brighter season for many of the families in our area.

Gift fair thanks
Dear Editor,
A big thank you to the greater Clarkston community, who helped make the 2014 Clarkston United Methodist Church Alternative Christmas Gift Fair a big success! The local, regional and global mission agencies who participated will realize a total of $22,091.59 for the benefit of the artisans and workers they support. We wish you and yours a blessed holiday season.

Donations for troops
Dear Editor,
The third grade students at Andersonville Elementary School thanks the families and staff for their generous donations during their Academic Service Learning Project Militarygiving.
During the last weeks of November, over 700 items were collected that will be sent to troops serving overseas. A special Thank You goes to Taco Bell on Dixie Hignway in Clarkston and Arby’s on Dixie in Waterford for their incredible donation of sauce packets to be added to our collection of items. Our students learned through their research these sauce packets are a special treat and highly sought out by our service men and women. We appreciate the opportunity to give to our troops who give up so much to protect us.
