Truck bomb investigation

A pickup truck was destroyed in an explosion, 8:15 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 10, in the 8200 block of Tindall Road in Springfield Township
Residents said they heard a loud explosion in their driveway, and discovered the damaged Chevrolet S10. The pickup truck was owned by a family member who was not home and had parked it in the driveway overnight. The homeowners did not see or hear anyone leaving or in the area.
The explosion destroyed the interior of the vehicle, sending debris over the yard and the driveway. The windshield of the truck was blown over the home and into the backyard of the residence. The explosion also shattered a window in the home. No one inside the home was injured.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Detectives from the Springfield Township Substation and the Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Unit responded. Once on scene they requested the Michigan State Police bomb squad and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to assist in the investigation. Evidence was collected for further forensic examination. A neighborhood canvas was conducted. A canvas of area hospitals was also conducted with negative results.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation, as is a motive. The investigation continues.
