Boys golf team takes a southern swing

As the sun rose over the hillside of Springfield, Ohio, this past weekend, it melted the frost covering the Locust Hills Golf Course where the Dragons competed in the 2015 Southern Swing Invitational.
Jackets were donned as cool air chilled the morning tee box for the 20 teams competing in the invitational. The 36-hole stoke play tournament featured teams from Novi, Clarkston, Davison, Battle Creek and Midland.
Despite impressive showings through their season thus far, the Dragons struggled to rise to podium level after placing eighth in the tournament.
Detroit Catholic Central won the Southern Swing Invitational by shooting 583 as team, while Clarkston followed just behind at 595, edging out Hartland by only one stroke.
The Dragons shot 617 as a team putting the just above Troy by five strokes but failing to pass Bloomfield by one stoke as they shot 616.

Despite the Dragons performance at Locust Hills, the team has had a successful start to their season. On April 15, they journeyed to Oakland University and competed in the OAA Red Division Tournament. The team’s depth allowed them to utilize their solid senior force while relying on their freshman through the 18-holes of play at the Katke Cousins Golf Course.
They won the first OAA Red Division tournament on a dark and dreary day. You never would have known there was dismal weather by looking at the scores the Dragons put up on the scoreboard.
Senior Schuyler Werth was tournament medalist with a score of 74 while senior Patrick Cummins and freshman Caden Prieskorn tied for fourth overall with scores of 77. The scoring was rounded out by senior Connor Wesley, shooting an 85. ?
The team score of 313 was 11 strokes better than second place Troy.

The Dragons faced Lapeer East on Tuesday at the Metamora Golf & Country Club.
