The Lake Orion Dragons varsity baseball team took some chunks out of Clarkston on Monday with a sweep of a doubleheader to improve to 10-4 and 6-2 in league play, good enough for first place in the OAA Red Division
Coach Andy Schramek said his squad has played some very good games so far this season and Monday’s sweep of the Wolves, by scores of 3-1 and 3-2, were good examples.
‘We have played some games that we played very well. Others we have been incomplete. We need some consistency but we are getting there,? Schramek said.
Junior pitcher Cam Miller and senior Dan McNairnie each threw gems on Monday against Clarkston.
Miller’s was a four-hitter while McNairnie pitched 6 2/3 innings of two-hit ball in the nightcap before Mike Falter got the final out.
‘Both of them have been very good this year,? Schramek said, of Miller and McNarinie.
Senior captain Miles Hardy and junior Bay Smart each had two hits to lead the offensive attack for Lake Orion in the first game.
In the nightcap, Clarkston jumped to a 2-0 lead before the Dragons came back with one run in the second and two in the fourth.
Schramek said centerfielder Hardy has been one of the team’s top performers as well as fellow captains Ken Guldi and Joe Turnbull.
Going into the Clarkston game, the Dragons were tied with Rochester at 4-2. Lake Orion will play for Wolves on Wednesday for the final time this season.
