Lion’s Jubilee roars in on Thursday

Lake Orion Village is ramping up plans to host the 2015 Jubilee Carnival in Downtown this weekend.
Hosted by the Lake Orion Lions Club, this will be the second the year it’s going to be downtown after it was moved from Canterbury Village.
The event will host an array of carnival attractions with classic food options and will have a have the popular beer tent.
‘It’s back downtown and it’s bigger, better, with greater entertainment,? Incoming Lions Club President John Knots said. ‘Last year was fantastic, we had a record year and now we can fine tune it even more.?
The Carnival will be open Thursday, June 25 from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. with the beer tent staying open another hour longer. Friday, June 26 from noon-11p.m. and music will be provided by Freshwater Drum.
Saturday, June 27 will run from noon-10 p.m. and is the day most are anticipating with the fireworks scheduled for 10 p.m.
The O’Dwyer Brothers, formerly The Bakon Brothers, will be providing entertainment from 3 p.m.-6 p.m., then the band Scotty Doesn’t Know will be on stage from 8 p.m.-midnight.
‘Traditions are what make a town a community,? said Jubilee Chairman, Joe Hildebrand. ‘Traditions are events people look forward to, plan around and remember from year to year.?
The fireworks will be shot from barges anchored near Squaw Island, and will be fully visible from Green’s Park and throughout the downtown area. The Village of Lake Orion will have a $1 entry fee to get into Green’s Park for the fireworks show. Contact the Village Offices for tickets at 248-693-8391.
Also happening on Saturday, will be the 5th Annual Big Wheel Races. Children between the ages of four and eight are encouraged to meet just outside the beer tent and race their big wheel.
The Lions Club is providing free shuttle service from its property on Miller Road at the intersection with Flint Street and Orion Road and from the Lake Orion School Administration building for people attending the Jubilee. The shuttle bus will make a loop going from Miller Road to the Jubilee and then to the schools building on Lapeer Street and to the Jubilee again and back to Miller Road to make the loop another time. The shuttles will be available from noon to 11p.m. on Friday, June 26 and from noon-midnight on Saturday.
The Lake Orion Fireworks Association will also be hosting fireworks on Saturday, July 4 and the Lion’s Club will have their annual Flare Night the day before.
The village recently adopted a policy for entry into Green’s Park for fireworks displays. The cost is $1 for village residents, $2 for non-village residents who are under 12 or more than 62 years old. All others will pay $4. For more information, go to www.lakeorion.org/.
