I am seven weeks into my internship with The Clarkston News and it feels like my first day was just yesterday.
With this internship, I am given the opportunity to write stories about the city I grew up in and so far it has been a rewarding experience for me.
This internship has shown me I can have a future as a reporter after I complete college. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I will continue to learn and improve on the things I know I need to improve on.
Along with writing stories for the newspaper, I am learning how to take the right picture for them. This internship has been helping me getting over my shyness as well.
I have to talk to people I’ve never talked to before and ask them questions for the newspaper. I know if I want a future as a reporter I have to talk to people I do not know and this internship is helping me with it.
Having an internship has helped me with my procrastination as well.
Every college student procrastinates in some way and I will admit I am one who procrastinates and waits to do things until the last possible minute.
This internship has shown me deadlines are extremely important in the newspaper business, and I have to complete my story for the newspaper by the deadline I am given.
Throughout the first seven weeks of this internship, I’ve had people tell me they are proud of me for having an internship because I am learning a lot from it.
That gives me reassurance this internship is worth waking up early every morning and driving to the office to work on what I need to complete for the newspaper.
I have eight weeks left of this internship to continue writing stories about the city of Clarkston and to continue learning about being a reporter.
I am looking forward to what the rest of this internship has in store for me and extremely grateful The Clarkston News is giving me the opportunity to complete an internship with them.
