On Monday night area firefighters and law enforcement were able to get their minds off of emergency incidents and enjoy a cruise on Lake Orion.
Members from Orion Fire Department and Oxford Fire Department joined the ranks with deputies from Oakland County Sheriff for the three-hour sunset cruise. More the 50 people came aboard the 12 year-old, hand built boat for a night to relax in clothing that wasn’t a uniform.
The Old Detroit Bar and Grill and Culver’s donated food and dessert to the first responders and The Old Detroit even brought in a small wait staff to help guests enjoy the night.
Although not first responders, members of Orion Township loosened up their ties to enjoy the night as well. Township Supervisor Chris Barnett helped organize the event and was also the night’s MC.
‘We just wanted to do something special for the people who put their safety and their lives on the line day in and day out,? Barnett said. ‘They’re a great group and we couldn’t be more thankful to them so it was nice to give them a night to relax.?
The Grand Princess filled it’s 60 gallon diesel tank while it’s 5.3-liter Mercury engine pushed it through the calm water of Lake Orion. Through out the night passersby on pontoons and paddle boards would wave to the guests as others came out to their boat docks to grab a picture.
